Easy Rigging

If you’re a Camera Trainee on the first day of prep or a solo-shooter DOP, you want the freedom to rig whatever you need, however you need, wherever you need. The Advanced Kit spoils you for choice, with a huge host of accessory mounting options. Choose standard bolt-on mounts via the 1/4" and 3/8” anti-twist screw threads, or mount camera straps from the dedicated QD sockets. There’s also integrated NATO for quick-release convenience – and that’s just the Top Plate. 

Top Performance

Want all those rigging options, but also want to access the camera’s shoe or EVF mount? The NATO Top Plate features a removeable filler piece, released with a few twists of a Hex Key. Though the trade-off is a few fewer bolt-on threads, you’ve then got access to the camera’s digital outputs. Hook up the FX5 EVF via an extension cable, then add it anywhere on your rig – we give you the options, you find the one that works best for you.

Get a Grip

The FX5 Advanced Kit forms a complete Sony FX5 cage, giving you plenty of rigging real-estate without compromising on camera size. Our Right Side Plate contours to the camera for comfortable handheld shooting, as well as a selection of 1/4" accessory mounts. On the other hand (literally), the NATO Wing Grip sits offset from the camera: making it easy to hold for handicam shots whilst also offering easy access to camera inputs. And of course, it is covered in bolt-on and quick-release rigging options.

Open Rigging

Our FX5 Bottom Plate is forward-facing in more ways than one. Of course, the camera is kept aligned by two mounting screws and anti-twist lips; but the built-in Arca compatibility means you can also mount it to a huge range of options. If you’re running a stripped-back rig, just clip it into an Arca tripod, or you can attach it into our OpenRig™ ecosystem if you’re wanting a more ambitious build.

Smooth Handling

The new Create Top Handle mounts via a standard NATO rail: for quick setup and even quicker release. We’ve made the smoothness of NATO setups even smoother, thanks to a built-in magnet that will automatically centre the handle on your Top Plate. Build it out with our set of Master Handle Extensions, or mount a low-profile monitor via our Top Bar Bracket and Rod Mount system.

Seamless Shooting

Whatever the particulars of your camera setup, whether you are ninja-walking on a gimbal or running a full cine rig, the Advanced Kit is designed to be forgotten about. The cage maximises access to the camera’s buttons and inputs, with dedicated cutouts for dummy batteries, drop-in filter housings and cable management.

Go Vertical

The Sony FX5’s Open Gate sensor means you can shoot for almost any aspect ratio. But if the client only wants 9:16, or you’re DOP-ing a vertical drama, you can mount the camera vertically for maximised resolution. Add our NATO Clamp for Vertical Shooting to clip the Wing Grip, so you can get the right angle at a right-angle.

Anyone left unsupervised with a power drill can put some holes in a lump of metal - so what sets the FX5 Advanced Kit apart? Aside from the fact that our plates are made from the kind of aluminium that they shoot into space, we also hard-anodise and precision-cut every single plate. The result? A quality you can feel through every second of shooting.

The Sony FX5 Advanced Kit comes with all required components, but you will need your own 2.5mm and 3mm Hex Key to install it.

Bottom Plate to Camera
1. Align the two mounting screws with the threads on the FX5 base.
2. Use a 3mm Hex Key to tightly secure them in place.

Top Plate to Camera
1. Align the Top Plate’s mounting screws with the corresponding threads on the FX5 body – the NATO rail should be over-hanging the lens mount.
2. Use a 3mm Hex Key to tighten the screws on the top and left side.

Top Handle to Top Plate
1. Slide the NATO clamp onto the NATO rail – it should automatically centre via the magnets.
2. Use the lever clamp to tighten the Top Handle into place.

Side Plate to Camera
1. Align the bottom screw with the indented thread on the FX5 Bottom Plate, and the top screw with the thread on the FX5’s body.
2. Use a 3mm Hex Key to tightly screw both screws into their respective threads.

Wing Grip to Cage
1. Align the bottom mounting screw with the mounting thread on the FX5 Bottom Plate – the correct screw is the one closes to the front of the camera.
2. Use a 3mm Hex Key to tighten the Wing Grip into place.
3. Align the top mounting screw with the corresponding thread on the Top Plate.
4. Use a 3mm Hex Key to secure the second screw in place.

HDMI Clamp to Cage
1. Align the screw thread of the HDMI Clamp with the marked gap on the Top Plate.
2. Insert your HDMI cable and align the Clamp so that the flat base of the cable is flush with the Clamp.
3. Use the 2.5mm Hex Key to fully tighten the Clamp to the Side Plate.
4. Secure the HDMI cable in place by tightening the thumbscrew.

USB-C Clamp to Cage
1. Align the mounting screw of the USB-C Clamp with the thread on the Bottom Plate – the thread is lower down on the left side of the Plate.
2. Use a 2.5mm Hex Key to secure the Clamp in place.
