Top Performance

The FX5 has the potential of a VENICE in the body of an FX3 – a winning combination. If you want to make the most of that power, then the NATO Top Plate gives you everything you need to gear it out. Mount accessories from a range of mounting threads: there are your classic 1/4" and 3/8” anti-twist screws, as well as some QD sockets (including one offset to match our Right Side Plate), M4 threads and a Cold Shoe mount with built-in safety catch. Quick-Release Convenience

If you’re not fond of bolt-on accessories, why not make things easier? The “NATO” in “NATO Top Plate” is thanks to a built-in quick-release rail, with safety stops at either end – as well as a line of mounting threads. We’ve also added a magnet to help you centre our new Create Top Handle, meaning no more guesswork as to whether your rig is balanced. 

All Killer, Some Filler

Of course, if you want to make rigging even easier, you can give yourself more real-estate with our removeable Top Plate Filler. Clip it into place and install it with a few turns of a Hex Key, and give yourself access to even more screw threads – with the trade-off that you can’t access the FX5 shoe mount.

Rigid Rigging

If your rig is insecure, your team tends to be insecure, too. The NATO Top Plate keeps things sturdy: mounting via three screws directly to the FX5’s body. Once bolted in place, the Top Plate is rock-solid and ready for you to build out with all manner of accessories. Our aerospace-grade aluminium means that this Top Plate will stay set-ready through any rough treatment.

The Sony FX5 NATO Top Plate comes with all required components and screws. You will require a 3mm Hex Key in order to install or adjust.

1. Align the Top Plate’s mounting screws with the corresponding threads on the FX5 body – the NATO rail should be over-hanging the lens mount.
2. Use a 3mm Hex Key to tighten the screws on the top and left side.

Filler Piece to Top Plate

1. Slide the Filler piece into the open slot on the Top Plate – the Filler should be level with the rest of the Top Plate – and loosely insert the two screws through both pieces.
2. Use a 3mm Hex Key to tightly secure the two pieces together.

The Sony FX5 NATO Top Plate is designed to fit the FX5 only: with mounting screws matching the camera body. It features a removeable filler piece that can be unscrewed to access the multifunction shoe and EVF mount. The Top Plate cannot be used when the Sony FX5 XLR handle is mounted.
