Quick-Release Convenience

For effortless setup, the Base Kit comes with a built-in Arca Swiss plate, compatible with any Arca receiver – the standard choice for filmmaking gear. If you want to ditch the bulk of baseplates and dovetails; all you need is the C50 Base Kit to go from handheld, tripods and gimbals in a heartbeat.

Get a Grip

The whole appeal of a compact cinema camera goes out the window when you need to bolt on bulky plates just to make it usable. We’ve struck a balance between the two: our Left Side Plate gives you extra clearance from the camera body itself, whilst the Right Side Plate is designed to match the C50’s grip. This means you don’t have to compromise on comfort or capability.

Clean Rigging

Of course, the main point of a cage is adding accessories to your rig – and in this instance, the C50 Base Kit really spoils you. Choose from your classic bolt-on mounts via 1/4" and 3/8” screw threads – each with anti-twist pin threads – or alternative mounts including MAP M4 points, QD sockets and integrated NATO rails.

Top Performance

There’s nothing worse than an unreliable mount: the discomfort of watching your expensive hardware wobble in place, no matter how hard you tighten it. Our C50 NATO Top Plate not only keeps your gear secure – with anti-twist points for each screw thread and easy-press safety stops on the NATO rail – but also mounts securely to the camera itself via the 1/4" handle mounting points.

Easily Handled

But using this Base Kit doesn’t mean you have to go completely without a Top Handle. The included Short Create Top Handle may not have the electronic inputs of the C50, but it is low-profile and ergonomic; with a built-in rubber inlay for a comfortable grip. Quickly slide the handle on-and-off the Top Plate via the built-in NATO Rail.

No Unexpected Twists

For productions where precision is essential, the C50 Bottom Plate won’t let you down. Our anti-twist lip on the front keeps the camera firmly aligned, cutting out the guesswork as to whether you’ve installed everything correctly. If your battery gives up on you mid-shoot, the Bottom Plate gives you clear access to swap it out.

Compact Clearance

A lot of cages for compact cameras trade customisation options for easy access to the camera functions themselves. We’ve struck a balance between the two: with the Left Side Plate offering space between the C50 body and the main part of the Side Plate. This gives you space to access the various inputs on the C50, as well as easy space for attaching the included C50 HDMI Clamp so that you never lose signal.

Flip the Script

Vertical is king these days, so if the client is calling for 9:16 rather than 16:9, our C50 Right Side Plate can accommodate. Simply mount the camera in portrait via the central 3/8” screw thread: ideal for dovetail plates like our Universal Dovetail.

The Canon C50 Base Kit comes with all required components and screws. You will require your own 2mm, 2.5mm and 3mm Hex Key in order to install it.

Bottom Plate to Camera

1. Align the captive 1/4" screw with the thread on the base of the C50 – the Bottom Plate should match the shape of the camera base with the Bright Tangerine logo facing forward on the camera.

2. Use the included flathead screwdriver to tighten the screw and secure the camera to the Bottom Plate.

Top Plate to Camera (with Filler Plate)

1. Slide the Filler Piece into the Top Plate so that it sits squarely in the middle of the Top Plate, with the screw threads line up.

2. Align the 1/4" screws with the two handle slot threads on top of the C50, again making sure that they pass through both the Top Plate and Filler.

3. Use a 3mm Hex Key to secure both plates to the camera.

Top Plate to Camera (without Filler Plate)

1. Align the 1/4" screws with the two handle slot threads on the C50.

2. Use a 3mm Hex Key to secure the Top Plate to the camera.

Top Handle to Top Plate

1. Slide the NATO clamp onto the Top Plate’s NATO rail.

2. Use the lever clamp to tighten the Top Handle in place

Right Side Plate to Camera

1. Align the captive 1/4" screw on the top of the Side Plate with the screw thread on the top-right of the C50.

2. Use a flathead screwdriver to secure the Side Plate to the camera.

3. Next, align the screw on the bottom of the Right Side Plate with the mounting thread on the Bottom Plate.

4. Use a 2.5mm Hex Key to secure it in place.

Left Side Plate to Camera

1. Align the screw on the bottom of the Side Plate with the thread on the left-hand side of the Bottom Plate – the writing on the Side Plate should be facing upwards.

2. Use a 3mm Hex Key to secure the Side Plate in place.

3. Align the top screw with the thread on the top-left of the C50 – just below the camera strap mount.

HDMI Clamp to Side Plate

1. Align the screw thread of the HDMI Clamp with the marked gap on the Side Plate and use a 3mm Hex Key to loosely mount the Clamp in place.

2. Insert your HDMI cable and align the Clamp so that the flat base of the cable is flush with the Clamp.

3. Use the 3mm Hex Key to fully tighten the Clamp to the Side Plate.

4. Secure the HDMI cable in place by tightening the thumbscrew.

The Canon C50 Base Kit is designed for the Canon C50 alone, with a selection of purpose-built accessories contouring to the shape and inputs of the camera. The Base Kit features a built-in Arca plate in the Bottom Plate, for quick-release compatibility with any standard Arca receiver.
