No Unexpected Moves

“Floating” doesn’t exactly sound secure, does it? If you’re worried about mounting several hundreds’ worth of gear to the Floating Top Plate, worry less. Once secured around the XLR handle, the support posts at the front and rear help stabilise the plate for even the shakiest of shaky-cam shots. And if you’re still worried about wobble, secure the Top Plate in place with the bolt-on Corner Top Plate – giving you extra peace of mind, as well as some more mounting options.

Easy Rigging

Remember when the FX6 was considered a compact cinema camera? The FX5 is practically pocket-size – but that doesn’t mean it compromises on rigging real-estate. With our Floating Top Plate, you have a level plane for rigging all kinds of accessories. Use the standard suite of 1/4" and 3/8” anti-twist screw threads, or there’s MAP M4 points for smaller accessories. For monitor mounts, lights, or microphones; there’s a Cold Shoe thread at the rear.

One & Done

If your Sony FX5 is fresh out of the box, then this Floating Top Plate is all you need to get started with rigging it. You won’t even need to break out the Hex Keys: just loosely mount the XLR Handle and clip the Top Plate into place. You should be able to tightly secure it in place with your bare hands. It doesn’t rely on any baseplates or bolt-on parts: if you need an all-in-one rigging option for your FX5, this is a great place to start.

The Sony FX5 Floating Top Plate comes with all required components. It can be used with or without the Sony FX5 Corner Top Plate, but requires the Sony XLR Handle to be installed first.

Top Plate to Camera
1. Loosen the Top Handle thumbscrews.
2. Slide the Top Plate in at a slight angle, so that the thumbscrews are snugly indented into the Top Plate’s channels.
3. Tighten the thumbscrews, using a Hex Key for extra torque if necessary.
