The Nikon ZR NATO Side Rib may look a little awkward, offset from the ZR camera body by a good few centimetres. But consider how helpful that space is: easy access to the HDMI and audio ports, space to mount lens adaptors, clearance for drop-in ND filter chambers – or even just a comfortable space for your left hand to grip on to.

Factor in the set of screw threads and an integrated NATO rail, and the Side Rib starts looking more accessible than awkward.

Quick-Release Convenience

If you’re bored of Hex Keys and bolt-on components that take as long to set up as the shoot itself, NATO is the way to go. Simply slide accessories into place and tighten the clamp. With the Side Rib’s built-in NATO rail, you have not only a quick setup, but a secure setup: with safety-stops at either end to prevent unwanted release.

Clean Rigging

But if you’re not bothered by bolt-ons, then the Side Rib still offers a robust selection of 1/4" and 3/8” screw threads. Each features ARRI-standard anti-twist pin threads, meaning any attached accessories stay attached. Combined with the NATO rail and the rest of the Nikon ZR Cage, you’ll be able to build a full cine rig around the compact body of the ZR.

Offset On-Set

Camera builds can be awkward: cramming as much gear onto as little real-estate as possible. It’s a tough problem, which the Nikon ZR Side Rib helps to offset – literally. The Side Rib is spaced out from the side of the ZR camera body, allowing you to access the HDMI, USB-C and audio ports; conveniently leaving space for our HDMI and USB-C Clamp. For lens adaptors with drop-in filters, such as the Mofage POCO, you’ve also got plenty of clearance to swap them in and out.

Go Vertical

If the client is after 9:16 instead of 16:9, then the Side Rib can help. The NATO rail is fully compatible with our Universal NATO Clamp for Vertical Shooting¸ meaning you can always get the right angle at a right-angle. The quick-release design means that it is easier than ever to transition from tripod to handheld.

Solid Shooting

Mounting to our Nikon ZR Cage and Nikon ZR Bottom Plate, the Side Rib forms the final part of a rigid wraparound cage for the ZR. Made from our signature high-grade aluminium, the Side Rib (and the ZR ecosystem on the whole) is the perfect blend of low weight and high durability.

Holding Space

Handheld shooting means having the most compact rig possible: often meaning that there’s little space for your hands themselves. Alongside our Cage Hand Grip for the Nikon ZR, the Side Rib’s offset design also gives you the option for holding the camera steady.

The Nikon ZR NATO Side Rib comes as a standalone component with the required screws. You will require the Nikon ZR Cage and Nikon ZR Bottom Plate in order to install it, as well as a 3mm Hex Key.
1. Align the Side Rib with the screw threads on the camera-left side of the Bottom Plate and Cage.
2. Use a 3mm Hex Key to screw the Side Rib into place until tightly secured.
