Quick-Release Convenience

With our LeftField Mini 15mm LWS Baseplate, you’ve got end-to-end quick-release for your camera. On the Baseplate itself, our patented Open•UP mechanism allows you to effortlessly lift off from any ARRI standard dovetail. With the stacked Riser, Receiver and Universal Dovetail on top, you can also quickly remove the camera from the baseplate for quick settings tweaks or packing up after wrap.

Dovetail Design

But why would you want a more complicated Baseplate? To make things simpler in the long run, we’ve made it so that you can quickly release the camera from the baseplate. For bigger rigs, this means packing down is quicker and easier, and smaller rigs can hop seamlessly onto gimbals, tripods or shoulder rigs. Even when your call sheet is cutting it close or the director decides to go handheld on the oner, your RED rig will be ready.

RMI-Ready

For a lot of RED KOMODO-X users, cage compatibility with the RED Monitor Interface (RMI) is a major pain point. With our dedicated Top NATO Rail and NATO Top Handle, you’ll have a curved and comfortable grip, stabilised by an accompanying Brace that factors in the added height of the RMI. The Handle and Extensions also have rubber inlays, so whether you’re wanting to steadily pan on a tripod or are going handheld at a low-angle, your hands won’t feel the strain.

Note: You will require a different Brace when shooting without the RMI.

Breathing Room

Though the Left and Right Side Plates may look overly-bulky at first, look a little closer. The double-sided screw threads with anti-twist locating pins mean you can rig accessories to the inside or outside – meaning you can hide messy cables from the BTS Photographer. For cleaner rigs, the Side Plates offer smoother airflow, so your rig doesn’t run hot as you run-and-gun. And with the extra Cheese Plate, you won’t run out of rigging real-estate.

Deep Customisation

In terms of what you can actually mount to your RED rig, you are spoiled for choice. Along with the standard suite of 1/4" and 3/8” screw threads with anti-twist points, the RED KOMODO-X Kit also provides a range of other options for rigging. Camera straps can be slipped off and on via QD sockets on top, along with an integrated NATO rail – which itself mounts the Top Handle and a dedicated Bar Bracket. With forward and side-facing 15mm rods up top, the Top Bar Bracket and Rod Mount offers the ideal point to set up your RED Touch 7.0” monitor.

Adaptor-Friendly

A huge draw of the RED ecosystem is not being tied into one lens mount – especially now that Nikon’s Z-Mount has joined the family. If you want to try out new primes without damaging your camera’s lens mount, the Side Plates and Top Rail feature dedicated mounts for different Lens Adaptor Supports – including our own range and RED’s native Adaptors.

The Expert Kit for RED KOMODO-X and RED Touch 7.0” comes with all components and screws. You will require a 3mm and 4mm Hex Key, as well as a flathead screwdriver, to install it.

Universal Dovetail to Camera

1. Align the 3/8” and 1/4" screw threads of the camera with the screws on the Universal Dovetail – they can slide for optimal balance.

2. Use a flathead screwdriver to secure the dovetail to the KOMODO.

DJI Receiver to Shim

1. Align the three M4 screws with corresponding mounts on the Riser Shim.

2. Use a 3mm Hex Key to tightly secure each of the three screws to the Riser.

DJI Plate to Receiver

1. Slide your DJI plate into the Receiver – using the arrows on the inside channel to guide you – until the safety clicks into plate.

2. Use the winged lever clamp to tighten the Receiver around the plate.

Side Plates to Camera

1. Align the Right Side Plate with the right-hand side of the KOMODO camera body.

2. Use a 3mm Hex Key to screw the Side Rail into place.

3. Align the Left Side Plate with the left-hand side of the KOMODO camera body.

4. Use a 3mm Hex Key to screw the Side Rail into place.

Cheese Plate to Right Side Plate

1. Align the two M4 screws with the two threads on the far end of the Right Side Plate.

2. Use a 2.5mm Hex Key to screw the two together – the Rear Cheese Plate should sit flush with the Right Side Plate.

Rear Top Plate to Side Plate

1. Align the support Bracket with the top-left corner of the Right Side Plate, and use a 4mm Hex Key to screw it in place.

2. Align the Rear Top Plate to the Bracket and use a 2.5mm Hex Key to secure it in place.

Handle Extension Brace to Handle & Rear Top Plate

1. Align the bottom of the Handle Brace with the 3/8” screw thread on the right side of the Rear Top Plate. Slot the 3/8” screw into place and use a 4mm Hex Key to secure it.

2. Align the top of the Handle Brace with a compatible screw thread on the Handle Extension. Slot the 3/8” screw into place and use a 4mm Hex Key to secure it.

Top NATO Rail to RED KOMODO (RMI)

1. Align the two innermost 1/4"screw threads (labelled “RMI”) with the 1/4" screw threads on top of the RED Monitor Interface.

2. Use a 4mm Hex Key to screw the NATO Rail to the RMI.

Bar Bracket to Top Handle/Spacer

1. Align the Handle or Spacer’s nub with the inlet on the Top Bar Bracket, aligning the screw threads. If you are using the Spacer, align the Top Handle on the other side, ensuring the Spacer is flush against both components.

2. Insert the two M4 x 25mm screws through all components.

3. Use a 3mm Hex Key to tighten the screws, ensuring all three parts are secured.

The Expert Kit for RED KOMODO-X and RED Touch 7.0” is designed for the RED KOMODO-X specifically: with a dedicated set of Top and Side Plates. The LeftField Mini baseplate and Riser combinations help set the camera to the 15mm LWS standard height for accessory mounting.

The Expert Kit is also compatible with the RED Touch 7.0” monitor and RED Monitor Interface (RMI), however users without the RMI should note that the handle brace will not be at the correct height. In this case, users should either purchase the full non-RMI Expert Kit, or just the alternative Handle Extension Brace.
