1% for the Planet

Change doesn’t come from one action: it’s a collective effort, and a long-term commitment. At Bright Tangerine, we’re one of the many businesses in the 1% for the Planet initiative, donating 1% of our annual sales – sales, not profits – to verified environmental organisations around the world.
It may not sound like much, but it adds up quickly – and we pride ourselves on the actions and organisations that we have helped support over the years.
What is 1% for the Planet?
Founded by Yvon Chouinard and Craig Mathews, 1% for the Planet started as a simple pledge. The Patagonia and Blue Ribbon Files founders decided to commit 1% of their annual sales to grassroots organisations. What started as an agreement between two businessmen in 2002 has grown to almost 5,000 businesses worldwide today, all contributing a share towards the future.
As a member of 1% for the Planet, our contributions have supported several businesses: some local, some national, some global.
Farnham Community Farm
The Farnham Community Farm is a local volunteer farm dedicated to promoting sustainable and pesticide-free farming, which has been literally catering to local businesses and households since 2008.
The Farnham Community Farm was founded in 2008 by Surrey locals who wanted a better class of organic produce – so they decided to do it themselves. It is a community-supported agriculture scheme: where members get to grow and harvest their own produce using considerate and chemical-free planting methods. With outreach programmes and volunteer workshop days, the Farnham Community Farm is a greener way to get your local greens.
The Redford Center
Founded by James and Robert Redford, the Redford Center is another group we’re proud to sponsor through 1% for the Planet. Working with emerging filmmakers, the Redford Center supports a more sustainable film industry through sponsorship, workshops and grants to help promote environmental filmmaking.
“At The Redford Center, we believe storytelling through film is one of the most powerful tools we have to accelerate environmental progress and solutions. Our mission to safeguard the planet through compelling, impactful films is made possible by the support of partners like Bright Tangerine. We’re honored to be a part of their campaign, which bolsters our work and champions sustainable, eco-conscious practices within the film industry.”

Sadhana Forest
When the Sadhana Forest team first moved to the titular region, it was predominantly arid land – unable to sustain water or wildlife. A few years, half a dozen natural dams and 29,000 trees later; and the region is teeming with life thanks to their vital work. With projects across India, Haiti and Kenya; the Sadhana Forest movement is growing in more ways than one.
The goal of Sadhana Forest is to help reclaim land that is considered barren or unusable, promoting sustainable living practices and reforestation. Volunteers can spend a few days in one of their ecovillages and participate in workshops, festivals and classes – all of it designed to deepen understanding of the issues facing our climate.
