Seamless Shooting

If your shot list has you bouncing from sticks to handheld to gimbals, then the Universal Dovetail is the best base for your Blackmagic build. It features dual compatibility with both Manfrotto tripods and DJI gimbals – even featuring a spring-loaded gear rack for balancing on gimbals – which means that you can switch setups in seconds.

Top Performance

Meanwhile, the dedicated Top Plate provides you with a vast range of rigging options, to help make the most of your URSA Cine. The Top Plate has an array of 1/4″, 3/8”, MAP M4 points and QD sockets – along with an optional 15mm Rod Console for top-mounted support rods. You can also give yourself a slightly bigger canvas with the Top Plate Extension, that can be fixed to either side of the URSA Cine.

Hot to Handle

Even with the Top Plate installed, the URSA Cine’s ventilation is still free, for consistent airflow and heat dispersion. So for handheld or low-angle shots, you can easily shoot with the included 1/4″-20 Top Handle. Extendable via our range of Master Handle Extensions, you can get creative with your setup whilst always having comfort and convenience.

Rod Rigging

The Base Kit also features a pair of our extendable Drumstix support rods, which can be fitted to the Universal Dovetail via the dedicated Rod Bracket. At the 15mm LWS standard width, they give you the option to mount a range of accessories such as lens supports and follow-focus wheels to your setup.

(Please note that the Rod Bracket does not set the rods at the 15mm LWS height.)

Instructions/Assembly

The Base Kit for Blackmagic URSA Cine comes with all required components and screws. You will require your own flathead screwdriver along with a 2.5mm and 4mm Hex Key in order to install the kit to the camera.

Universal Dovetail to Camera

1. Align the two 3/8” and one 1/4″ screws in the Universal Dovetail with the threads on the URSA Cine’s base.
2. Use a flathead screwdriver to secure the camera to the Dovetail, sliding the camera along the central channel to help with balance.<

15mm LWS Rod Bracket to Dovetail

1. Align the two 3/8” screws on the top of the rod bracket with the threads on the base of the dovetail.
2. Use a 4mm Hex Key to tighten both screws into place.

Top Plate to Camera<

1. Align the three captive 1/4″ screws with the three slots on the Blackmagic URSA Cine.
2. Use a 4mm Hex Key to tightly screw the Top Plate to the camera.

Top Plate Extension to Top Plate

1. Align the Top Plate Extension’s M4 screw with the thread marked “EXT” on the back-left or back-right of the Top Plate.

2. Use a 2.5mm Hex Key in order to secure the Extension in place.

Top Handle to Top Plate

1. Align the two 1/4”-20 screws with corresponding threads on the top plate.
2. Using a 4mm Hex Key, alternately tighten each screw until the Top Handle is securely fastened to the Top Plate.

Compatibility

The Base Kit for Blackmagic URSA Cine is designed to work with the URSA Cine specifically, with a dedicated Top Plate designed to complement the camera’s size. The remaining components, however, are designed to be universal: compatible with any other camera build.
