Olly Tellett (Indiana Jones, F1) on the Prodigy Air Deflector

Thanks to its unique method of blasting compressed air onto your camera front element, our flagship Prodigy Air Deflector keeps your frame clear of moisture, dust and debris. It has continued to receive professional praise since its debut, and has been deployed on a range of high-end film and TV productions across the world to keep cameras free of visual interference.

Olly Tellett is a prolific 1st Assistant Cameraman, with upcoming credits including Joseph Kosinski’s F1, Disney’s Snow White remake and Marvel Studios’ The Fantastic Four – all due to release this year. His backlog of production experience is equally impressive: having worked on the latest James Bond, Mission: Impossible and Indiana Jones franchise entries.

We’d heard previously from fellow crew member Russel Torode about the value of the Prodigy on productions. Tellett had known about the Prodigy in its earliest development, having spoken to our team during the initial research period, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was one of the first films to field-test the Air Deflector.

“I knew it was going to work straight away, and when we saw the early demonstration it was a revelation. We put it on, it works, it does exactly what we want it to do.

As a 1st AC, the Prodigy is absolutely brilliant. It works every time, it does exactly what we want it to do without any fogging or any major cabling or pipes everywhere. We can stick it on the camera and it’s just so easy.We were all waiting for a product like the Prodigy to come out.”

Though the Prodigy is ultra-effective at clearing moisture, dirt and other debris from your camera’s front element; many Prodigy users have employed it more as an insurance method than for actively cleaning the lens. For Indiana Jones, which featured a scene at sea, Tellett wanted to prevent a stray splash from spoiling a shot, and Snow White used it to protect against a snow white-out.

“We used it on [Indiana Jones], just in case there was any sea splash. In the end of Snow White, we had this ending scene with little bits of paper snow raining down – they can often get caught and sit on the lens – but the Prodigy kept the lens clear all the way through. We had ice and snow on [Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire] where little particles would be floating around when we were doing low shots.”

Compared to traditional air deflector methods, the Prodigy leaves no central dead spots or interference with your frame. This gives it a major advantage, especially on effects-heavy shoots.

“It goes unnoticed by directors and VFX editors and everyone because you get a clean shot every time. It means we’re not going again because of rain on the lens […] It’s a real time-saver.”
